THE LAB REPORT™
Beauty Editor-Approved: Your Holiday Lookbook
RAYYAN, BEAUTY EDITOR | NOVEMBER 18, 2020
We've all had to switch up our holiday plans this year. From in-person dinner parties to Zoom happy hours and vacation destinations to staycations, we are continually learning to adapt to a new normal.
Whether you're staying home or safely gathering for some "6 feet distant" champagne fun, this Holiday Lookbook will prep you for the ultimate glam for the season. I’ve outlined the skincare prep and makeup steps that will have you RSVPing with confidence to that next festive soiree, virtual or not.
The most crucial step to any look is starting with a good skincare routine. Regardless of how many steps you've built into your regimen, you'll want to make sure you've adequately cleansed your skin and prepped it by adding the ideal amount of moisture to meet your unique needs.
My personal favorite, the SKINN double cleanse: first with the Divine Elixir Luminous Skin Facial Cleansing Oil, followed by the Non-Negotiables® Green Tea + Mint AM Cleanser. Next, I like to customize my moisture by adding just the right amount of luminosity and hydration to my skin with the Divine Elixir Luminous Skin Facial Oil. This helps hydrate and restore radiance while delivering powerful antioxidants to my skin for a glow-induced base for my makeup. It’s also essential to keep your eye area protected before you apply any eye makeup, so I’ll be using the Divine Elixir Luminous Skin Eye Oil. This eye oil is loaded with Vitamin C, antioxidants, and protects from Blue Light damage. So, if your holiday party is over video call – this product is going to be your best friend. My last prep step is to apply the Divine Elixir Luminous Skin Lip Oil in shade Golden to keep my lips hydrated and supple, until my lipstick goes on.
Now that my skin is prepped, the makeup process can begin. And to get the best of your holiday look, you will want to make sure you’re primed and ready for a flawless, all-day wear that will last beyond the cocktail party.
This season's top beauty trend is dewy, glowing skin so, I'll be using the Deep Wrinkle Protocol Perfect Skin Illuminating Primer.
The next step is my base makeup including foundation, concealer, and bronzer. For my setting powder, I like to use the Deep Wrinkle Protocol Perfect Skin Vivid Wear Airbrush Finishing Powder for that flawless, airbrushed effect.
Right now, the season's focus is bold classic eyes and if you're wearing a mask for your gathering, you'll want to draw the focus exactly there… glammed-out eyes. I am the queen of neutrals so, I will focus my shadow palette on a blend of browns to set the stage for the exciting part: the cat-eye.
The easiest way to define your eyes is with winged eyeliner however, that also happens to be the hardest part of any makeup look. Here's my tip: use the Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Pencil in shade Cleopatra (AKA, Black) or you can opt for Chocolate if you're not as daring. Bold or not, simply glide the Smudge Stick onto your lower lash line, then take a precision brush and blend it out for a diffused look.
Starting at the outer corner of your eye, take a liquid liner and just add the wingtip. Then go back in with your eye pencil and glide until the lines connect. Don't worry if this doesn't come out perfect, you can always blend with a precision brush and transform it into a smokey wing effect to cover any unforeseen cat-eye catastrophes.
Once you feel confident in your eyeliner, the next step is two coats of mascara. I will be using the Scientific Color™ Lash Redemption. This 4-in-1 mascara is a staple for any look I create. It gives full, buildable volume, extended length, and the perfect curl while also nourishing your lashes! With its added Hyaluronic Acid and Coconut Oil your lashes will not only feel soft, but also keep a natural bounce too.
BEAUTY EDITOR HACK:
If you are a more subtle makeup lover who wants something quick and easy, here's an alternative to the smokey, cat-eye look.
Using the Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Pencil in shade Penny, glide all over your lid for a bronzed base. Next on your brow bone and inner corner of your eyes, go in with the shade Moonlight to highlight the high points of your eyes. Finish with Lash Redemption and optional black or brown liner.
The last step is the best step, (and most fun) for your holiday look. Since you've prepped your lips with the Divine Elixir Luminous Skin Lip Oil, you can stop there to have a natural lip, or apply a pop of color with that same lip oil, but in shade Crimson for some festive fun!
My choice is the Lustrous Lip in Kissable which is a super long-wear lipstick that has an amazing satin-like feel. Plus, the Vitamin E in this lipstick helps keep your lips moisturized in between holiday sips and bites!
For a more adventurous holiday glam look, layer the Deep Wrinkle Protocol Crème Velours Lipstick in shade Siren with just a touch of the Lip 6X Balm in Midnight Kiss. This duo lip moment creates a sultrier look, perfect for the evening, and the extra plumping power gives you the perfect lip moment on and off camera!
And now… you are ready!
